Legendary Zeiss lenses with gentle contrast, pleasing focus roll-off and subtle vignetting. Built in collaboration with Arri for their Arriflex 35-II line they were originally known simply as ‘Arriflex Zeiss Primes’. With lots of vintage character that doesn’t overwhelm the frame this set is a touch ‘cleaner’ than the later superspeeds but incredibly versatile as a result. The expressive flares and vintage aesthetic with centre sharpness ensures the longevity of this beautiful glass. These are MkII’s so feature T-Coating throughout and perfectly colour match both each other and the superspeeds. The focus and iris gears are uniform up until the 135mm which makes for speedy lens changes. Enhanced edge sharpness and contrast at deeper stops means that (like our other Zeiss offerings at MCX) you are offered two looks in one set of lenses depending on how you shoot. “Pleasing” is a word that you hear a lot with these lenses, from the breathing to the cool direct and warm veiling flares. The soft hexagonal bokeh and incredibly compact form factor make Zeiss 2.1’s a creative choice and a practical choice too. Short and lightweight these lenses make a great match to gimbals and lightweight builds as well as our Ronin 4D.
